General Options
On login in you will be presented with the the General Options screen.

The 'public name of this list' can not be used to change the name of the list. It is only for adding/removing capitalisation from the name.
You can add/remove/edit List administrator's email addresses, a brief phrase to identify the mailing list, and a description of the mailing list.
You can change the 'prefix for subject line', which defaults to the name of the list in square brackets ([]).
The 'list specific prepend for new users' can be used to give information to new users when they receive their welcome mail. The 'text to send people leaving the list' can be used to add a message to those wishing to unsubscribe from your list.
The remainder of the settings should be left, unless you know what they are for.

It is advisable to only allow 'List members', or 'List admin only' to view the subscription list, and to show the addresses so they're not immediately recognisable as addresses.
The rest of the options should be left, unless you know what they are for.

It is advisable to set the 'action when critical or excess bounces are detected' to 'Disable and notify me'.
Archival Options

By default, the archive time period is set to 'Monthly'. Until a month has passed, the 'Go to list archives' link will give a 404 error. You can alter the time period to daily, to create an archive, then switch to a longer archive time period.
