34SP.com servers use mod_php4, our newer servers use mod_php5, which will work for the majority of scripts that you may want to run on your account. However we do understand that you may find a script that doesn't run using our normal installation. This is where the "phpcgi" installations can help.

Whilst these installations retain the vast majority of functionality of the mod_php installation they add new features as well, for example the Aspell, Calendar library and mysqli functions are available which may be of use to you.

Installing php-cgi

Our automatic php.cgi installer, and instructions can be found here https://scripts.34sp.com/phpcgi/

These will use a few megabytes of diskspace to install.

You can confirm this is working by visiting http://www.YOURDOMAIN/testphpcgi where you should then see an output similar to the links below.
(If for any reason you do not see the expected output please mail us)

Now the part that has made this particular directory(testphpcgi) run under phpcgi is the contents of the .htaccess file, You should copy this file to the directory in which you would like to use php.cgi. If you wish to use php.cgi for the whole site then you should place it in httpdocs so that it affects the whole domain. Scripts that benefit from phpcgi include gallery and mambo.

If you do not see the .htaccess file in the testphpcgi folder please tell your ftp client to show hidden files. SmartFTP will show these files by default and is a very capable ftp client.

Installing php-fast-cgi

We now have a newer php compiled using fastcgi. This installer can be found here https://scripts.34sp.com/phpfastcgi/

This will only use a few kilobytes of diskspace to install.

You can confirm this is working by visiting http://www.YOURDOMAIN/testphpfcgi where you should then see an output similar to the links below.
(If for any reason you do not see the expected output please mail us)

Extra Modules

If you would like access to something that is not listed in the phpcgi outputs we may be able to create a custom CGI for you. Please email us with details of the modules you would like access to, and we will see what can be done. This will depend on additional packages required; please note that extra modules will increase the disk space needed by the phpcgi installation.
